CHRISTMAS DONATION FROM MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY

Christmas comes just in time for Giving Back To Wounded Knee Foundation,Inc. of Plainwell, Michigan, courtesy of hundreds of “elves” at Michigan State University!

Today Cindy received a phone call from Mr. Mark Terman, Executive Director of Major Gifts, Michigan State University located in  East Lansing, Michigan letting her know to expect a delivery of hundreds of Teddy Bears of all shapes and sizes, winter wool caps, mittens and gloves, Michigan State University T-Shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, plus a cash donation! The delivery truck will be making its way from campus 90 miles away to Plainwell, Michigan on December 22, 2011.

“Today, I prayed for donations for our Foundation”, says Hicks-Orth, and within the hour the phone call came telling us of the Good News! We are absolutely elated! We always knew it wasn’t just our winning football team, the Michigan State Spartens in the Big Ten, who are the only champions! This huge effort on behalf of the faculty and students will go a long way in bringing us to our goal of 1,000 Teddy Bears and 1,000 sleeping bags for the children and adults on the Rosebud Lakota Sioux Reservation in South Dakota!”

A HUGE LAKOTA CHEER TO MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY AND ALL THE SPARTANS WHO CONTRIBUTED SO GENEROUSLY TO OUR CAUSE!” This proves again that’ Mitakuye Oyasin’ – we are all related in the circle of life!

WOPILA TANKA (Many Thanks in Lakota) to the kind Spartans of Michigan State University!

ART FROM THE HEART

Hey Everybody!  We Have Little Artists On Pine Ridge and Rosebud!

When we set up our foundation, we sent letters to the principals and teachers of the elementary and middle schools on both Pine Ridge and Rosebud Lakota/Oglala Sioux Reservations and let them know that we were having an art open invitational for the children to send us their ideas which would best describe our  words we live by:  Stand Together! (Wanjila Kiciya Najimipi!) and Help One Another:  (Okiciyapi!)

We were going to have just three prizes, first, second and third but so many beautiful little works of art arrived depicting our words to live by, that we had 12 prizes instead!  And what were they?  All kinds of art supplies for the budding little artists!

Be sure to view the artwork the kids sent us on our photo gallery!  Adorable! Nothing is better than art from the heart! (of a child!!!).
